New to JN - Quartet Californian Sparkling

Learn About Wine: Vineyard Profiles |

      Tags:California,Sparkling,U.S.A.,

In 1981, Jean-Claude Rouzaud (the then president of Champagne Louise Roederer & fifth generation of the founder) acquired the 580 acre Anderson Valley, Mendocino, California vineyard and winery. Building on a 200-year tradition of fine wine making, Rouzand identified the area as being perfect for the production of top sparkling wines. Roederer Estate’s vineyard has been quietly nurturing their own vineyards and creating fine wines since 1982, releasing their first vintage in 1988.

The Anderson Valley is 200 kilometres north of San Francisco and just a few miles inland from the rugged Mendocino coast thus enjoying a similar cool climate to Champagne. There are four distinct vineyards on the estate - hence the name Quartet - from which all the grapes are sourced. Quartet consists of approximately 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir - the opposite proportions to Louis Roederer Brut Premier! Oak-aged wines from the Estate's reserve cellars are added to the blend, creating a multi-vintage cuvée in the traditional Roederer style.

Quartet Anderson Valley Brut is crisp and elegant with complex pear, spice and hazelnut flavours. It is fresh and lightly fruity with great finesse and depth of flavour.

This treat from the family behind Cristal isequally well suited to summer picnics and candlelit dinners, adding a special touch to any occasion, pairing brilliantly with eggs (think of an indulgent brunch picnic!), fish dishes & white meat. Or greatly enjoyed on its own.

"If any commercially available California fizz can lay claim to real complexity, this is it. Toasty and mature, with a dry, savoury undertone and a crisp, focused finish." (Tim Atkin MW, Observer, 13 December 2009).
