The wines of Bordeaux attract plenty of media attention and speculation - it's a dynamic region with plenty of superstar wines to keep the fascination alive and of course the potential to invest adds a further frisson of excitement.  For pure drinking pleasure there is plenty in Bordeaux to satisfy and delight.  When you are not buying wine to invest, there are many more properties to choose from and better value to be found.  This is where time spent in Bordeaux tasting the wines and getting to know the people pays excellent dividends.

We have just purchased a wonderful parcel of Château Bernadotte directly from the Château. The Château has been under the ownership of Pichon Lalande for the past four years and during their three vintages they have managed to raise the quality substantially of what was already a very good property. We tasted the 2011 in Pichon Lalande in April 2012 and can confirm real elegance and delicious, red berry fruit.  Already pleasurable to drink, it should continue to give pleasure over the next 10 years.

“A sleeper of a vintage, this estate, owned by the proprietors of Pichon Lalande, has produced a seductive, charming 2011.  Composed of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it offers up a seductive bouquet of tobacco leaf, red and dark berry fruit, and hints of cedar, wood smoke and earth.  Ripe, medium-bodied and silky smooth, this dense ruby/plum coloured La Bernadotte can be enjoyed over the next 8-10 years.”eRobertParker.com, 87-89 pts, April 2012

“Brambly, dark fruit nose.  Juicy, well-extracted palate.  Savoury and ripe.  Refined tannic frame.  Will not disappoint.  Drink 2015-2022.”  16.25pts Decanter, March 2014
