When you spend some time with the people at Château de Sours you get the feeling that they might just be living the dream. Martin Krajewski and his wife Nicolette fell in love with this place, bought it and have lovingly breathed new life into the whole operation – the vineyards, the Château itself and of course the wines. This is Bordeaux with a serious injection of joie de vivre.

The current house was originally built in 1792 by the Comtes du Richemont who also planted the first vines. They have 80 hectares of their own land and lease an additional few hectares. The fruit from each small plot of vines is harvested separately and with their totally new winery they now have the capability to process each small batch individually. Each block of vines has its own character which comes from the age of the vines, the grape variety, the soil and its exposure to the sun.

Although they are not organic, they take a very environmentally conscious approach to viticulture and keep the yields low for maximum fruit quality. The team are geared up to treat each small batch of grapes in a way that brings out its unique features.

The Château de Sours philosophy is to make true Bordeaux wines, wines that express their terroir and their history but to inject a bit of vitality and modernism into them. These are wines that are ready to drink when they are young and don’t require a decade or more of cellaring to be at their best. Cheers to that!
