Is 2016 your year for becoming more adventurous with your wine choices?

It’s a natural temptation to stick with the wines you know and love.  It saves time, money, and potential disappointment but it can also get a bit restrictive.  Do you ever get the sneaky feeling you’re missing out on something or maybe those old favourites are less appealing than they once were?  Maybe it’s time to shake things up a bit?

Here are our top tips for expanding your wine horizons.

      Try our style cases.

If there are certain types of wine that you particularly love such as Sauvignon Blanc or Shiraz then our style cases might be just the thing to help you broaden your selection.  Fresh and light whites are ideal if you like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio.  For Chardonnay lovers, the full bodied whites are all in a similar vein.  Soft and fruity reds are great if you love Pinot Noir or Merlot, but if Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon is your thing, then full bodied reds might be just the ticket.

Come to the shop on a Saturday.

There are always wines open to try in the afternoon. It’s free and you get to try something new without any obligation to purchase whatsoever.

      Talk to us.

We are all certified wine nerds and nothing gives us greater pleasure than helping customers to find new wines to enjoy.  Don’t worry about not being as fluent in wine lingo as Oz Clarke, it’s really not necessary.  It’s actually very helpful for us if you have a few things you don’t like as well as some of the things that you do.

      Come to a tasting.

Sign up for our emails and keep your eye on our events page on the website for upcoming wine dinners and events.  The proof of the pudding is in the tasting as they say.  When you get the opportunity to try a few wines side by side you really get the hang of the differences between them and it’s an extremely cost effective way of sampling a whole range of wines.  The key is to challenge yourself and make sure you try the things you normally don’t bother with.  Your taste changes over time as do winemaking styles and fashions and trends so it’s always worth keeping an open mind and trying new things or revisiting wines that you had previously dismissed.

      Buy a mixed case.

These are a great idea if you have quite broad taste.  We have mixed cases by region (France, Spain, Iberia), our Top 12, Classics of the World and new cases to discover all the time.
