Why wait? Wines for drinking now

Many of us wine lovers have romantic notions of large collections, full of classic Bordeaux, Burgundy, Hermitage, Champagne, Barolo…the list can go on and on and on. The reality is, for the vast majority of us, the fancy cellar, full of perfectly aged wines is nothing more than a dream. But that definitely doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a glass of the good stuff! The fact is, the vast majority of red wine is supposed to be consumed within 3-5 years of vintage (1-3 for white and within 18 months for light, pale rosé) so that gives us plenty of options to sip on while waiting on that special occasion to pop something special.

Sartarelli Brut Spumante NV

Not unlike a good Prosecco in its charming upfront fruit and floral aromas and flavours. Crisp, dry and always elegant. Buy it, chill it and drink it! Serve with some salty snacks for a fab Friday evening.

Herdade Do Portocarro Tears of Anima Rose 2017

Located South of Lisbon, in the Alcácer do Sal district, Torrão parish, the estate overlooks the tiny village of São Romão. 100% Sangiovese, only the first quality raw material is used to obtain a wine of excellence and purity. Very fresh, vibrant and elegant. Drink over the next 18 months. A perfect aperitif!

Bodegas Katxina Txakoli 2017

Family owned winery with a restauranteur background.  A fun wine to enjoy as an appetizer, if you’ve been to San Sebastian, you will know that every bar and restaurant will serve you this to drink! It combines very well with fish, Iberian-pork-based appetisers and rice dishes.

Domaine Gayda Figure Libre Freestyle Rouge 2016

A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan & Mouvedre, all organically grown grapes. Traditional vinification without added sulphur.  A full-bodied wine, with an expansive mouthfeel, integrated tannins and a long, silky finish. Perfect with your favourite comfort foods; everything from cheddar and crackers to roast beef or bangers and mash!

Domaine Rochette Beaujolais Villages 2015

The Rochettes come from a family of winegrowers stretching back several generations.  A wine for all occasions – soft fruity and eminently drinkable. Character abound food friendly and very moreish. 2015 was a stand-out vintage in Beaujolais. This wine is drinking wonderfully now, but can easily be enjoyed over the next 2 years as well.  Perfect with a nice pate or some classic French-bistro fare.
