Mourgues du Gres Les Galets Rose 2011, Costieres de Nimes, France
LIST PRICE £7.50
OFFER PRICE £6.15
Named after les Gres, a particular type of landscape covered in pudding stones of glacial origin, one of the defining characteristics of the Costieres de Nimes appellation. After the bleeding method used to create this rosé, in which juice is bled and blended from other tanks prior to fermentation, the wine is then aged in stainless steel tanks for 6 months. Rigorous temperature control throughout fermentation preserves all of the wine's natural juicy flavours and freshness. This is a dry, serious yet fresh rosé packed with red berry fruit and a twist of orange peel.
Food Pairing: It will partner light fish dishes to perfection.
Chateau Leoube Rose 2011, Provence, France
LIST PRICE £11.66
OFFER PRICE £9.92
A mixture of schist and clay characterise Château Léoube soils. The proximity of the sea, the daily sea breeze and cool nights are all factors that provide an ideal climate for growing grapes.
Produced on the Côte d'Azur estate owned by businessman Sir Anthony Bamford and his wife Carole, the force behind Daylesford organic shops, Château Léoube is unashamedly pitched at the same upmarket clientele. And yes, it is worth it: ideal for a smart summer lunch of lobster or crab, it is surprisingly complex, with hints of orange pith, smokiness and Provençal herbs. (Terry Kirby, Independent on Sunday, 21 Aug 2011).
Among its many awards, Léoube rosé won a Silver Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, 2012 and received 91 pts in the Ultimate Wine Challenge, 27 April 2012, being described as "excellent, highly recommended".
