Château Laroque

Château Laroque, with its powerful 12th century tower, is imposing. Located south of the village of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, Laroque is a stronghold overlooking Saint-Émilion.

Its defensive vocation locates the foundations of Château Laroque on a plateau where we find all the types of limestone that make up the best terroirs of Saint-Émilion.

In a completely empirical way, this very calcareous geological feature covered with a more or less thin layer of clay has produced remarkable quality wines.

The grape varieties include the two great varieties of Saint-Émilion: Merlot, which on the limestone gives flesh, shine, chiseled contours and lots of flavour, and Cabernet Franc, which expresses itself more over the length, with its fresh and slender finish.

In order to obtain the best possible grapes, the soils are naturally grassed or sown with cereals, some ploughing, digging and scraping are also carried out according to the seasons.

This work on the soil, the respect for wooded areas and hedges which contribute to the balance of the place, like the grape varieties, constitute the identity of the wine.

Observation, patience and meticulousness accompany each manual work in the vineyard. As many times as necessary, the winemaker repeats for each vine, the gesture of pruning, bending, disbudding, suckering, lifting.

The time of the harvest and the selection of the terroirs and berries intended for the production of the great wine, will give birth to a style in respect of the vintage effect. The vinification is done with the intention of respecting the limestone imprint, of sublimating the flavours, the freshness and the brilliance of the wines.

They find this precision during the aging in the barrel cellars and oak tuns for two winters. This long period, from 15 to 18 months depending on the vintages and the behaviour of the wine, is used to make the blends that are made during the successive rackings.
