Domaine Jamet

From the village of Ampuis, drive four kilometres towards the hills until you reach Domaine Jamet. This lovely drive allows you to appreciate the steep slopes of the Côte-Rôtie hills. These are the wonderful terroirs that give their character to this glorious nectar.

Domaine Jamet lies on a plateau, known as "Le Vallin", with a fabulous view where Mont Blanc and the Alps can be seen in good weather. Entering the storehouse, nature and simplicity seem to be the Jamet family's key words, focused on the artisanal nature of the place. This is where Jean-Paul, his wife Corinne and, more recently their elder son Loïc cultivate vines and wines with a passion.

Jean-Paul Jamet began making wine alongside his father Joseph in 1976.

He left school to start working with his parents in the family business. Together, they developed the vine-growing and wine-making work, but Jean-Paul quickly took the initiative and made decisions.

By continuing traditional practices, the Jamet family manages the vineyard on the upper slopes of Ampuis. Corinne, who joined the operation in the early 1990s, mainly manages the front office of the Domaine.

As for Loïc, his elder sister Fanny and his brother Dorian, he is now taking part in decision-making and works alongside his parents.

After studying viticulture and oenology in college, and many other diverse and enriching experiences, Loïc Jamet completed his learning in other countries by immersion for several months in South Africa.

A cultural, vine-growing and wine-making environment so very different from French methods, he took part in winemaking, discovered different work methods and refined his palate by tasting typical South African wines.

Theory and practice now allow him to take his first big steps in the cellar of the Domaine.

And so, it is in the spirit of a wish to communicate a feeling of trust and a willingness to merge that Jean-Paul told his son Loïc about developing a Condrieu, under the Domaine Jamet name.

Balance, consistency, and knowledge sharing are the key words for this family.

The Wines

DOMAINE JAMET CôTE RôTIE

The assemblage, a key word for Jean-Paul, makes it possible to access the Côte Rôtie of the Domaine Jamet. The variety of terroirs, exposure and the age of the vines are complementary elements that combine their strengths.

100% Syrah grown mainly on various types of schist from 20 parcels of which 15 are in different locations: Fongeant, Côte Blonde, Landonne, Côte Rozier, Plomb, Chavaroche, Moutonnes, Lésardes, Gerine, Truchet, Leyat, Bonnivières, Côte Bodin, Tartaras, Rochins.

Vinification - Whole bunches, maceration for about three weeks. Matured for 22 months in barrels of which 15% are new.

CôTE RôTIE, ‘CôTE BRUNE’

"Côte-Brune" is the only plot selection in the Domaine. It was first made in 1976 and derives from the plot on "Côte-Brune" land registered denomination. This wine, full of complexity, allows us to express the character of this very typical locality.
100% Syrah grown on schist.

Vinification- 100 % whole bunches, maceration for about three weeks. Matured for 24 months in barrels of which 30% are new barrels.

CONDRIEU VERNILLON

In 2015, Loïc Jamet, supported by his father Jean-Paul, vinified the first Condrieu of Domaine Jamet. 100% Viognier grown on the granite soil plots: Vernon and Côte Chatillon. Matured in amphorae eggs.

CôTE du RHôNE ‘ÉQUIVOQUE

Equivoque is the name of the new cuvee from the Domaine Jamet. On the intersection of two appellations, this wine is the outcome of a reflection in the hillsides of the terroir. A wine we at JN affectionately call a ‘Baby Côte Rôtie.’

100% Syrah grown on schist.

Vinification: Partially destemmed with macerations of about 20 days. Matured for 22 months in barrels.

CôTE du RHôNE ROUGE

The Côtes du Rhône is an assemblage of parcels located on the upper slopes of the commune of Ampuis. Plots: Lézardes, Cognet, Plomb, Champrond, Tartaras.

CôTE du RHôNE BLANC

Produced from an assemblage of different plots in the commune of Ampuis, the white Côtes du Rhône from Domaine Jamet is northern in character. Mainly produced from Marsanne and Viognier grapes, this wine is fresh, with minerality, and provides immediate enjoyment.

60% marsanne, 30% viognier, 7% roussane, 3% grenache blanc grown on schist and clay-limestone soil.
