Ramos Pinto

The origin of the House of Ramos Pinto dates back to the 19th century. Aged only 21, Adriano Ramos Pinto launched a story that has lasted for more than 140 years. As the result of an innovative and pioneering strategy, the young entrepreneur expanded the business to the Brazilian market. Success was almost immediate and by the early 20th century they brand represented half the wines exported to South America, while also creating a market in Portugal and the rest of the world.

Renowned for its founder’s creative streak, Ramos Pinto created a link between top quality wine and its original, absolutely avant-garde marketing method.

The Ramos Pinto motto: These wines live by one thing and one thing only. Excellence.

At Casa Ramos Pinto there is a never-ending dedication to the studying of wine by making constant research on soil and weather conditions and the latest innovation technology. The end result is more than the wine itself: it’s a complete experience.

In the Vineyard

Achieving this degree of excellency required a stance of constant innovation and in-depth knowledge of the lands where wines are produced. The acquisition of Quintas, the study of soils and the best grape varieties allowed for a self-supply policy in order to guarantee all production needs. There are 360 hectares of planted area where the best grapes are grown, ensuring exceptional quality and the finest selection of must available. The house holds a deep knowledge on winemaking from planting in the soil to serving at the table.

After realising that plantation in terraces suffered from the Duro’s climate erosion, something had to change. The vertical vineyard came onto the scene then, the vines were planted in rows parallel to the contours. This allows for better vine yields and the introduction of mechanisation in a region where labour is scarce.

In the Winery

Casa Ramos Pinto's ability to generate intrinsic wine knowledge over the years has been differential to the business' success. Studies conducted allowed to create and maintain excellence by improving the quality of wines produced.

Casa Ramos Pinto's latest study on wood aims at finding the best type around to use in winemaking. The goal is a perfect match between wine and wood: its type, size and provenance. At the same time, this research respectfully maintains the already defined style of great complexity and elegance of its wines.
