Domaine de Cébène ‘À La Venvole’ 2020

We at JN Wine are delighted to announce an exciting new addition to our portfolio in the form of ‘À La Venvole’, completing our collection of the much-lauded Domaine de Cébène range.

Domaine de Cebene Faugeres A la Venvole 2020

Brigitte Chevalier is a vigneron that is very much en vogue with the wine intelligentsia of late – and for very good reason. Her wines have been touted as the “perfect, textbook example of Faugères” by the French press, as her desire to capture the delicate expression of this cooler, northerly Languedoc appellation has been deemed a resounding success by all that have tasted them.

The 2020 is the second vintage of ‘À La Venvole’, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan from some of Brigitte’s younger vines as well as older ones located on the northerly and easterly faces of her property, with each variety being picked and vinified separately before blending. Vinification is entirely in stainless steel – no oak – to accentuate the expressive, high-toned fruit and floral nature of this cuvée that is intended for earlier drinking.

This is quintessential ‘vin de soif’ yet does not compromise on concentration and intrigue. Juicy and mouth-watering with oodles of red-berried fruit and rosy florality, the wine abounds in wafts of warm garrigue, bresaola-like umami and rocky, mineral aromas and flavours. If that hasn’t convinced you, you can read Jancis Robinson MW’s recent review of the 2020 ‘À La Venvole’ below:

“The second vintage of this cuvée designed to showcase the elegance of Faugères but meant for earlier drinking. From the vines around the cave. Grenache, a bit of Syrah and some Carignan, young and old. À la Venvole is an old French expression meaning à l’improviste or unexpectedly. Certified organic. Brigitte Chevalier describes this as un vin de bistronomie.
Bright, pale crimson. Chock-full of sweet, youthful fruit. Beautifully juicy, unavoidably swallowable. Tannins are hardly there until the very end, but the schist of Faugères is. You’d want to drink this with food but you’d have difficulty resisting getting to the bottom of the bottle. Drink to 2025. 17 points.”
