We have been bowled over by the quality and sheer drinkability of the wines from Cellers Joan d’Anguera. Our latest Spanish arrival is a juicy little number from the Montsant region in Catalonia accompanied by a rather tasty special introductory price.
The wine will be available for tasting in the shop this Saturday (8th November) from 12-5pm.
Brothers Joan and Josep d’Anguera have recently taken over the reins from their father at the family estate in Montsant, just south of Barcelona. Under the watchful eye of their mother Mercè, the boys are gradually putting their own mark on the wines.
They have converted to biodynamic production and been Demeter certified since the 2012 vintage. Instead of new oak barrels they are now using a combination of old barrels, ‘foudres’ (very large wooden casks) and concrete tanks to allow the bright fruit flavours of the wine to come to the fore and keep any oak flavours very subtle.
Planella 2012 (14.5% Alc)
50% Carignan, 45% Syrah and 5% Grenache.
The organic fruit is harvested by hand, fermented in concrete tanks and aged in old French barriques for 12 months.
“With a nose of mature, black fruit and some toasty notes from the oak. Medium intensity, good structure. Drinking well.” JN Taste team
