      Tasting Notes and Description
Belle Lurette: very old Carignan vines with an average age of 75 years, the venerable vines used for this wine tell a long story of the men and women who have sculpted them over the years. They now produce very small quantities of grapes, creating a noble wine, lively and distinguished, astonishingly fresh and voluptuous.

Brigitte Chevalier came to Faugères to make wine in her own, highly individual way. In a short space of time, the estate has established itself as a leader within its chosen appellation (chosen as one of the few Best of the South" vineyards by Andrew Jefford, MW, in Decanter magazine and referred to in the French press as "perfect, textbook example of Faugères wines) and a highly rated name within winemaking circles.

She wants to capture the style and delicate flavour of cooler appellation wines in the Languedoc. Her judicious choice of terroirs, combined with deep-rooted vines, very low yields, grapes handpicked at optimum ripeness and careful vinification give her organic wines a unique profile.

100% schist (slate) on the upper northern hills of the Faugères appellation, one of the older and most qualitative terroirs in the wine world. The north orientation of the vines ensures that the sugar maturation in the grapes does not precede the development of the phenolic compounds. 40 km from the Mediterranean, at 320 metres altitude. A blend of very old and deep-rooted vines of mainly Carignan with some Mourvèdre and Grenache.

"Full bottle 1,410 g, a bit heavier than the 2020! Certified organic. Mostly old Carignan bush vines (over 100 years old) planted on schist, with a little bit of Mourvèdre and Grenache. Very low yields (15–20 hl/ha), hand-picked, and fermented in small-parcel batches. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel.
Admirably fresh and textured. A fine expression of Carignan with real structure and personality. Like a healthy mouthwash. Very savoury and digestible. The opposite of bludgeoning – more of a caress. Drink 2023 - 2030."
      16.5/20 points.
      Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com (August 2023)

"This has aromas of cherries, fresh blackberries, dried herbs and baking spices. Focused and well-balanced with a medium body and fine tannins. Harmonious with velvety texture and a juicy core of fruit at the delicious finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."
      92 points.
      James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com (August 2023)

"A blend of 80% Carignan (from old vines) and the rest Mourvèdre and Grenache Noir facing north and northeast, the 2021 Faugeres Belle Lurette is brighter and more perfumed than its 2022 counterpart. Evoking aromas of lilac, iris, dark berries, tobacco leaves and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and dense with a rich chassis of tannins, a somewhat chalky, lively structure and a saline finish. It should age gracefully over the next 15 years. Drink to 2040."
      93 points.
